Future Ministry in Myanmar

Sad to say that less than 1 % of Myanmar’s population is Bible believing Christian and less than 5 % of their ministers are well trained theologically.  Churches are being planted under the radar.  But many of them don’t have pastors. In some areas a single pastor takes care of three or four churches.  Most of the pastors have fewer than 10 books in their library. Christian literature is extremely limited. Of the 165 ethnic groups, over a hundred of them have not had any written language/dialect. The Bible (both OT & NT) has been provided only for some 14 ethnic groups (I include Judson’s Burmese Bible). So, at least 150 ethnic groups are still waiting for the Bible. Indeed, most of them don’t even know who Jesus is. Most of all, the need is GREAT. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.

There are so many things we have to do, but we can’t do them all. Priorities have to occupy this vapor-like-life. Having the big picture (the whole country) in mind, we will start small – 1) Seminary – we will train pastor-teachers, Bible expositors, and evangelists; 2) Plant churches; 3) Translate Bibles (I was one of the Tedim Bible translators before i came to BBS. On my returning I will be an adjunct consultant as approved by Bibles International).

We bring nothing when we first come to this world, but we have plenty now. How many/much of what we have will go with us from this world? In this life we all can do something that will impact many a life for eternity. In heaven someone you have never met/known before may stand up and say to you, “Thank you so much. I am here because of you.” Closed countries like Myanmar can never hinder your prayers and financial supports. Don’t waste your life and your wealth. The more you have to leave, the more you have to lose. But the mor you give, the more you’ll gain. Oh, what a day that will be! Now, my friend, what will you do with your freedom? Opportunities don’t come often.
